If you have a stack of orphan blocks or scrapes ( you know those poor pieces that didn’t quite fit anywhere in your projects). You have the start of a small art quilt. I will show you how to design a small wall hanging using orphan blocks, small sewn together scraps, and even pieces of UFO’s that you’ve fallen on to love with. We will decide on a theme using orphans and images to create a background and focal point. Then we will add 3D elements, such as buttons, beads, and other ephemeras to create a truly unique piece. I will show you different ways to finish the piece, such as facing, zig-zag edging, etc.. Now how to hang it on the wall. do you want to mount it on a canvas or hang it from a pre-made hanger? I cover that too. Let’s give those orphans a home! Hanger (optional) available for purchase.

With this technique students dan combine two hobbies, because it is very much like piecing together a jigsaw puzzle. A raw-edge fusible applique is used, leaving a negative space between each piece. The background fabric can be any color, but if black is used the piece will have a wonderful stained-glass look. This is a fun class for both beginners and experienced quilters. In class students can choose between two different patterns: Sunrise/Sunset or Mountain Majesty or Abstract Desert. $25.00 kit fee per student payable to instructor at the beginning of class.

Scrolls are popular. Join the craze! Use your fabric scraps and other bits and bobs to create a nice vertical long piece. You can decide on a theme or just have fun using up scraps. I will show you how to sew it down by machine, finish the edges, and create a pocket for hanging. You can use a traditional wood spool to hang it from or something unique, such as a rolling pin for a cooking theme. In class you will work on a 3″x24″ scroll. A perfect size to get the top done.
